Don’t let the cold deter you from coming to see the many exciting works of art that the Pictures Department has to offer this February at McTear’s.
For the first time, The British & International Pictures Auction will be held at McTear’s on a Sunday afternoon, and it’s a new development about which we are very excited!
The success of The Sunday Scottish Contemporary Art Auctions has been fantastic and the feedback regarding this relaxed sale environment has been positive all-round. Therefore, it seems like a natural progression to move both The Scottish Pictures Auction and The British & International Pictures Auction over to a Sunday, too.
Held every ten weeks, The British & International Pictures Auction at McTear’s offers an array of quality 19th and 20th century paintings in oil and watercolours.
Standout pieces from this upcoming auction include Henriëtte Ronner Knip’s ‘Kitten with Chessboard’ (lot 3). This highly detailed, beautifully composed painting exemplifies the work for which the artist is best known, studies of animals at play.
Stanley Royle’s pastoral and coastal scenes are renowned for the fresh atmosphere that exudes from the canvas. ‘A Relic of the Past’ (lot 2) showcases the artist’s ability to work with light and shade and conjures just the right amount of nostalgia with its gaggle of geese wandering freely across the cobbles.
Watercolours are well-represented, too – William Stephen Coleman’s ‘Picking Cherries’ (lot 1) could melt the heart of any viewer and will be sure to set the tone of this hotly-anticipated, inaugural Sunday sale.
See you then!
