Valuer, Jewellery Department
McTear’s is a Glasgow auction house offering a style of service seen in only a handful of houses outside London. Dedicated auctions are held every five weeks in all major categories, including Scottish pictures, silver, jewellery, watches, coins, Asian works of art, furniture, militaria, ceramics, clocks, whisky, wine and Scottish contemporary art.
A full time vacancy has arisen for a Valuer with a specialism in appraising jewellery, watches and coins. The position involves valuing jewellery,
watches and coins in McTear’s and in clients’ homes as required, welcoming clients to McTear’s, nurturing existing clients and gaining new business, sourcing jewellery for auction by establishing new relationships with private and trade clients, and participating in internal and external valuation events as required, as well as auction day duties.
Previous auction house experience and knowledge of categories of art and antiques in addition to jewellery, watches and coins would be beneficial but all circumstances will be considered. Other key skills are excellent communication and people skills, knowledge of the auction market and trends, superior customer service, highly organised and motivated to succeed. Driving license and experience on the rostrum would be beneficial but not essential.
