Designed for Life saw fierce competition and impressive results with devotees of Arts & Crafts, Scandinavian and Continental design joining the bidding from Glasgow and across the world.
The best of British ceramics were on offer with a Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre bowl by the renowned Daisy Makeig-Jones, before a private collection of Royal Worcester and Royal Crown Derby stole the show with strong competition from the UK and Ireland for these fine quality pieces showcasing the virtuosity of the potters and painters employed by these historic factories – an impressive pair of fruit painted vases led the way at £4,200.
Of slightly more eclectic taste, a rare Louis Wain ‘Haw Haw’ Cat appealed to the devoted collecting base and sold for £750. A strong showcase of furniture prompted competition with two Ligne Roset corner sofa units impressing at a combined £2,700 while Scandinavian design again proved strong with £1,000 for a coffee table by Sven Ellekaer for Christian Linneberg being a highlight. Finally, much pre-sale interest had been received for an early 20th century Louis Vuitton travel trunk; bidders were encouraged by the originality and pursued it to £2,200.
Consignments of 19th & 20th Century Design including Aesthetic Movement, Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Mid-Century, Modernist and Post-Modern ceramics, glass, metalware, artworks and furniture are invited for the next auction taking place on 1st September.
