Bidders from around the world competed in what was a spectacular auction of Militaria, Maps and Ethnographica.
A private collection of rare military binoculars headlined the auction with high pre-sale interest leading to impressive results: a bid of £13,000 was required to secure a rare pair of Kriegsmarine stationary binoculars by Askania and the seven lots spanning German, British, Russian and French production totalled a hammer price of over £25,000.
Fine maps from the same source also fared well with an excellent example of Blaeu’s Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy going for £600.
Collectors flocked to a scarce Battle of Britain RAF scramble bell, pursuing it to £1,200 before the hammer fell.
An excellent array of antique firearms and edged weapons followed with a Mameluke sabre at £360, two 1796 Pattern officer’s sabres at £550 and a Japanese Tanegashima musket at £440.
Finally, South Africa medals with a family connection proved popular among collectors with two issued to a T. and J. Logan respectively going for just under £1,000 together.
Further entries of British and international arms and armour, civic forces memorabilia, antiquarian maps and books are invited are invited for the next Militaria, Maps & Ethnographica auction on 12th October.
