The joy of antiques is their ability to transport us to other times and places, indeed a very different world than ours.
A fine salon suite takes us to Belle Epoque France of the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Toulouse-Lautrec haunted the Moulin Rouge and Gustave Eiffel built his famous tower.
We then travel to Russia with a rare Imperial biscuit porcelain figure produced by the Gardner Porcelain Factory: modelled as a peasant mother clutching her child, we can imagine the biting cold of Siberian snows.
A whirlwind tour of central Europe takes in the factories of Herend in Vienna and Zsolnay Pecs in Hungary; after a quick detour to the Ginori workshop in Tuscany we return to Scotland with two excellent examples of textiles, the first a William IV sampler worked by a Richmond Kilpatrick of Edinburgh with the second, a large and fine Paisley shawl of circa 1860 bringing us close to home.
Entries entries are invited for our next Fine Furniture & Works of Art auction on 2nd February. For a complimentary, no-obligation valuation, make an appointment to visit our Glasgow Galleries, or contact our specialists by clicking this link and completing the short form.
