Furniture was keenly contested in this sale, with a fine pair of George III library armchairs exceeding expectations at £1,800 and a Black Forest smoking table achieving an impressive £1,600. Contemporary design also made a splash with well-regarded names G-Plan, Stouby, Cassina and McIntosh all subject to strong competition amongst bidders. Militaria proved as strong as ever with a hunting horn relating to the Seventh Xhosa War brought down at £1,100 while a private collection encompassing medals, arms and equipment garnered bids from North American and New Zealand collectors and brought over £4,000. Elsewhere, a rare Danter’s Waltzer Funfair Car was deemed too good to miss at £1,200, followed by keen bidding for a collection of desirable boxed Dinky Models bringing over £1,000.
Entries are invited for the next Works of Art, Medals, Militaria & Furniture auction taking place on 16 December 2021.
