SCOTTISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP GOLD MEDAL 1960-61,
awarded to Jim Baxter of Rangers F.C., the obverse with central shield shaped plaque with red enamel lion rampant motif, within blue enamel border inscribed 'Scottish Football League', the reverse inscribed 'League Cup, Season 1960-61 Winner', in nine carat gold, 3.8cm including bale, approx. 8.8g
Provenance note: Douglas Gray, the vendor, was a page boy at Baxter's Wedding in Coatbridge, 1965. Baxter gifted this medal to Gray's mother sometime during that period, and he recalls her wearing it on a charm bracelet for many years. This was the very first of ten medals won by Baxter during his five years with Rangers, doing so when they beat Kilmarnock 2-0 in the final. Baxter is still regarded as one of the greatest Rangers and Scotland players of all-time.
