On the 29th September 1910, the SS Lydia was wrecked in the Haitan Straits, China, some eighteen persons being in danger, there being a gale blowing with heavy sea. Sutherland of the SS Haichow, which was standing by, and Wild of the SS Lydia went over with lines and reached a boat, after which all were picked up.
