ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY BRONZE MEDAL
inscribed DAVID SUTHERLAND 29TH SEPT 1910, in Elkington box of issue, along with WWI service medals comprising a pair to 103055 GNR. A. CRICHTON R.A., and a War Medal to S-18090 PTE. H. WADDELL A.&S.H., along with two George V coronation medals

On the 29th September 1910, the SS Lydia was wrecked in the Haitan Straits, China, some eighteen persons being in danger, there being a gale blowing with heavy sea. Sutherland of the SS Haichow, which was standing by, and Wild of the SS Lydia went over with lines and reached a boat, after which all were picked up.
