A Taste of the Sixties

01/07/2019     Whisky

Young bottlings of Glen Grant are not usually whiskies which tick the boxes for collectors, but lot 176 is a little different.

On the surface of it, it is a 5 year old whisky bottled at 100° proof, and bottled by Peter Thomson Ltd. The fact that the strength is measured in imperial measures indicates a good age, (pre-1975), but what makes this more desirable is the closure.

Screw caps are not rare things, but this bottle has a ‘Securo cap’ closure which was used for a short time during the early 1960s. Bottles with these types of seal are few and far between, but when they do come to market, they always demand a strong level of interest.

With this bottle being in excellent condition, it is expected to sell for £1,000 to £2,000 in Friday’s Rare & Fine Whisky auction.
