Atmos achieves 4K!

23/07/2018     Clocks

An exquisite Jaeger Le Coultre ‘Atmos’ clock went under the hammer on Friday 20 July achieving a staggering £4,000 hammer price (nearly double the low estimate!). in what proved to be a small but mighty Clocks, Musical & Scientific Instrument Auction.

Atmos is the brand name for mechanical torsion pendulum clocks made by the illustrious Swiss manufacturers Jaeger le Coultre, basically a technical term for clocks which require no manual winding. Powered by changes in the temperature and atmospheric pressure, these clocks can virtually run for a lifetime without human intervention.

The first example of the Atmos clock was produced in Switzerland in 1928 and, though this was a far more modern example, lot 1406 saw plenty of interest as well as fierce bidding on the day!
