Diamonds are still a girl’s best friend

24/09/2018     Jewellery

In recent months there has been strong competition for coloured stones with many items achieving far more than their diamond counterparts. However, of the top ten sellers in yesterday’s Jewellery Auction, only one was set with something other diamonds. Clients may already thinking of Christmas.

The hammer price leader was lot 4, an ideal present – a diamond bracelet which sold to a room bidder for £2060 including fees.

This was closely followed by lot 101, a solitaire ring that went home with a Perthshire buyer for £1900.

Are two diamonds better than one? Almost! Lot 166 was a diamond two stone ring which sold for £1400 to another local buyer. The non-diamond star of the show was lot 52, a very large opal. In the Edwardian style, the classic shaped piece achieved £1000 after competition from online bidders, phone bidders and the room.

Christmas is fast approaching and bidders will be looking for jewellery to give as gifts. Do you have items to sell? Contact sarah@mctears.co.uk for a free valuation.
