Fine 19th Century Music Box Selling at McTear's in July

04/07/2017     Musical Instruments

McTear's is very happy to offer a 19th Centuiry Swiss music box in July's Clocks, Scientific & Musical Instruments Sale.

Lot 40 is a large example by Etouffoirs en Acier soit a Spiraux. The card and winding arm are numbered 302 and the 53cm brass cylinder plays twelve popular airs including La Magicienne. The strikers are modelled as bees and strike on engraved bells. All of this is contained within a rosewood veneered case, the hinged cover with an unusual inlaid centre with an Egyptian inspired panel depicting Sphinx, female bust and flowerheads. The box sits on associated mahogany stand of Rococo design.

With an estimate of £800-£1200 we are confident it will be a hit with buyers on the day!
