26/02/2019 Jewellery
With the lighter days and better weather came bold and confident bidding from those competing at The Jewellery Auction on 24 February.
In this, the month of St Valentines Day, it was diamond jewels that took nine of the top ten selling spots. Lot 2, a diamond three stone ring estimated at £1200-1800, soared past estimate with the hammer falling at £3200. This sold to one of the seven phone bidders registered to bid on the lot.
Of the eleven solitaires on offer it was lot 3 that shone brightest, selling to an online buyer for four times its lower estimate, at £1600. An Art Deco example, it’s delicate diamond shoulders and generous round brilliant cut stone encouraged strong bidding from the phone, in the room and online.
The fashion for Victorian Scottish jewellery showed no sign of waning with lot 32, a striking set of banded agates set to a bracelet, selling for £300 to a local room bidder.
