Magnificent Moorcroft

18/07/2019     Ceramics & Glass

Moorcroft has come a long way from when William Moorcroft first began to retail his pottery in 1897, in prestigious stores such as Liberty of London, Harrods and Tiffany & Co. Walter Moorcroft then took the helm as sole designer at Moorcroft in 1945, introducing exotic flowers and dramatic colours. Since then, a number of talented male and female designer have entered the artistic fray of Moorcroft, and today, five ‘world-class ceramic designers’ comprise the Design Studio of Moorcroft.

The British & Continental Ceramics & Glass Auction at McTear’s this month includes over thirty lots of Moorcroft ceramics. The impressive collection of contemporary Moorcroft includes beautiful designs by Emma Bossons, Nicola Slaney, Kerry Goodwin, Sophie Christina, Sally Tuffin, Vicky Lovatt, Alicia Amison, Rachel Bishop and William Moorcroft.

In addition to an array of attractive ceramic pieces, this auction presents the perfect opportunity for any budding ceramics collector to expand their knowledge on Moorcroft. Two lots feature books, collectors club newsletters and albums (1291 & 1292).

The auction takes place on Thursday 18 July, but viewing continues until the auction starts at 2.30pm. Come along to view this magnificent Moorcroft collection, alongside a variety of other remarkable ceramic objects, at McTear’s Glasgow Galleries.
