Mid-20th Century Manner

19/04/2019     Jewellery

Jewellery from the 1950s-60s has perhaps been considered a little unfashionable over the last 30 years. At auction there are, however, the quiet beginnings of a renaissance for the the 'retro' style, with its bold and sometimes naturalistic focus or contrastingly geometric forms.

The pieces can be quite the showstoppers: have a look at lot 45 (£100-150). Dating to the late 1960s, this impressive ring features a moulded floral motif bezel with green gem set leaves.
Quite different is lot 84, an emerald and diamond ring with its rectangular plaque bezel and strong but simple design. Possibly a later example in the mid-20th style, this ring is estimated at £1800-2500.
