Ringing in the New Year

16/01/2019     Jewellery

The inaugural Jewellery Auction of 2019 saw the top three selling spots going to rings.

Lot 134, a sapphire and diamond cluster, achieved £2800 including fees. With competition beginning in the room, the ring sold to a telephone bidder based in Ireland.

Lot 23, a classic diamond cluster ring, sold at £2200, four times its pre-auction estimate. With competition from online bidders initially, this lot finally sold to the same lucky Ireland-based buyer on the telephone. One of the most striking lots was an opal and diamond dress ring.

Lot 126 was set with a vivid opal to an ornate diamond mount and achieved £2200. Bought in the room by a local buyer, this sale shows once again that opals are growing in popularity and that the superstition of old is beginning to wane.
