Swedish glass soars above high estimate!

14/10/2019     Ceramics & Glass

The British & Continental Ceramics & Glass Auction on Thursday only proved to demonstrate the strong market for pieces by the late Swedish designer Vicke Lindstrand (1904-1983), as two Orrefors glass vases by Lindstrand soared above estimate.

Lot 1217 was a particularly impressive piece, which attracted competition in the room, online and on the telephone. After strong competition between two telephone bidders, this eventually sold for more than three times the high estimate, achieving a hammer price of £900. A smaller piece by Lindstrand was offered at lot 1216, selling for £260.

As always, the British & Continental Ceramics & Glass Auction saw impressive ceramics and glass ware from Britain and the continent come under the hammer.

In the ‘Best of British’ category, notable highlights include a stunning Royal Worcester coffee service by Harry Stinton (lot 1288) and a Carlton Ware ‘Palm Blossom’ pattern vase (lot 1226). These achieved hammer prices of £800 and £550 respectively.

Meanwhile, from the continent, an attractive Lladro chess set (lot 1259) sold for £500.
