Top hammer result for John Maclauchlan Milne at McTear's

25/04/2016     Scottish Pictures

The Scottish Pictures Auction on Sunday 24th April was a resounding success, with determined bidding from online, telephone and room buyers. April has blessed us with fleeting moments of spring sunshine, so it is no surprise that John Maclauchlan Milne’s colourful depiction of ‘Layet, Lavendou’ (lot 13) was the star lot of the day. This lot generated very competitive bidding from all four telephone lines and with online and room buyers, achieving well over its higher estimate at a hammer price of £23,000.

Edward Atkinson Hornel always attracts great auction interest, and his beautiful depiction of ‘Early Summer, Galloway’ (lot 9) drew in strong bidding, meeting its higher estimate of £18,000. Similarly Ernest Archibald Taylor’s ‘A Galloway Road’ (lot 57) had buyers battling it out, with the lot going on to achieve a hammer price of £2,800. A playful seascape by Robert Gemmell Hutchison (lot 25) also brought in the bids, with the hammer falling at £2,800.
