Without a Doughty

23/01/2018     Ceramics & Glass

Three of the most exciting lots in our upcoming British & Continental Ceramics & Glass auction (1 February) stand as quintessential representations of the work of one of the most famous British ceramicists of the 20th century, Freda Doughty.

Along with her sister Dorothy, the Doughtys are often credited with ensuring the future prosperity of the iconic Royal Worcester name at a time when it was on the brink of ruin.

From the hundred or so models that Freda designed for the company, it is her several series of children that she is most well-known for, and lots 1204, 1205 and 1206 contain some of her most memorable works.

With lot 1204 being a set of children allegorical of the months of the year, and lots 1205 and 1206 being for the days of the week, these charming figures will be sure to conjure a vision of Arcadian bliss all year round.
