Lavish Lalique

Our specialist Design Sale, 7 June 2023, has a wonderful collection of mid-century design classics to tempt all bidders. Within the sale are several varied pieces of prolific glass ware maker Lalique.

Born in Aÿ-en-Champagne, France, René-Jules Lalique (1860-1945) is considered to be one of the indisputable masters of jewellery design in the Art Nouveau style. However, it was in 1909 that Lalique's focus would shift from making jewellery to producing high end luxury glass ware. The Lalique glass factory in Combe-la-Ville near Parris opened and René Lalique put on his last jewellery show in 1912.

One Lalique lot to watch in our June sale is lot 367 - a Lalique 'Masque De Femme' Crystal Panel. This particular piece, designed in 1925, is moulded with two fish either side of a large facial feature. The frosted glass is signed Lalique France to lower the edge, with a polished chrome stand and comes with an estimate of £1000 - £2000.

Another interesting piece is lot 360 - a Lalique 'Ganymede' wine cooler, in a very intricate frosted finish and decorated with figures. it is signed Lalique France and comes together with a pair of cocktail sticks attributed to Lalique. This lot comes with an estimate of £500 - £700.
