Taking place on 12 December, our Grand Interiors | Furniture & Works of Art Auction is a celebration of artworks in wood, ceramic, bronze, taxidermy, textile, ink and metalwork.
This auction features an ultra-rare experimental glaze Royal Doulton figure alongside beautiful Scottish, Irish and British furniture of bygone eras, a second instalment of a private collection of Beswick ceramics and much more.
A highlight of the auction is Lot 1411, a cheeky figure which was designed by Harry Tittensor ( Burslem 1887 – 1942 ) for Royal Doulton. Trained at the Burslem School of Art, Harry joined Royal Doulton as an apprentice aged 13 and remained with the company until 1925.
Titled ‘One of the Forty’ these figures depict characters from Arabian Nights, likely modelled after the illustrations by Edmund Dulac’s 1907 Stories from the Arabian Nights. Designed between 1920-21 these figures depicting the Forty Thieves come in 13 different styles and were produced in multiple colourways between 1921-1938. This figure is likely style number 10.
Titanian glaze, first introduced in 1915 uses titanium oxide to create a blue shade, which can vary from white to dark blue. The figure is stamped with the Royal Doulton Titanian backstamp and impressed number 328 and 288.
Further entries of fine antique and classically styled furniture, works of art and items of historical importance are invited for this auction. For a complimentary, no-obligation valuation, visit our Glasgow Galleries or contact a specialist on 0141 810 2880 or auction@mctears.co.uk.
