Sapphires, gold and polished steel rolexes shine in the auction spotlight

On Thursday 22 September, a selection of prestige timepieces, jewellery and rare coins achieved impressive prices across three specialist auctions – Coins, Jewellery and Watches. 

A stunning ‘no date’ Rolex Submariner exceeded its £10,000 lower estimate with a hammer of £12,000, while a Rolex Daytona fetched £9,000 in the Everyday Elegance: Watches & Timepieces Auction, Scotland’s only auction dedicated to watches.  Strong prices for a selection of other timepieces from the luxury watchmaker illustrates quite clearly the huge demand that exists for this premier brand. 

Sapphires shone out in the Season of Gold: Autumn Jewellery Auction, with a rich yellow coloured sapphire and diamond bracelet, and a beautiful individual yellow sapphire, securing £2,500 and £1,500 respectively.

Across both the jewellery and coin auctions, gold continued its upward trend, with prices reflecting the soaring value of the precious yellow metal since the start of the year.

A hugely impressive twenty two carat gold Waterloo medal by Pistrucci was the star of the Coins & Banknotes Auction, exceeding its estimate with a hammer of £5,800.  Collectors’ sets were also in demand with a set of King Edward VII full reign British Empire gold sovereigns selling for £2,400 and a William and Kate gold and coin set attracting a bid of £2,200.

There was strong bidding in the room for all auctions, with many buyers taking the opportunity to examine specific pieces prior to the sales beginning.
