McTear’s dedicated Coins & Banknotes Auctions are known for the variety of items on offer, and the sale on 5 November was no exception.
By far the most impressive lot was 553. This collection of Roman coins soared past its estimate of £80-120 to sell for £1200 including fees to an online bidder based in the USA.
The top selling lot was a little more unusual too – a bracelet that was set with five sovereigns (lot 502).
After competition in the room it sold to an online bidder based in England for £2100. Lot 531 was a gold £5 coin, which sold to a buyer who left a commission bid online and made £1400.
